Scholarly Selections: “You are a man of science now, Wash.”

In connection with UW Tacoma’s School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences Community Book Project’s selection, the award-winning novel, WASHINGTON BLACK, and Black History Month, UWT Senior Lecturer in History, Libi Sundermann, PhD, will give a talk that explores how the enslaved protagonist of Esi Edugyan’s story reflects the real-life contributions enslaved peoples made to knowledge and advances claimed by European scientists in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. [The SIAS Community Book Project is sponsored by an ITaSC grant.]
About Scholarly Selections
A partnership between the UW Tacoma School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences and the Washington State History Museum, Scholarly Selections brings UWT scholars’ work to the public in an informal setting. Talks are held on the Third Thursday of the month when admission to the museum is free.
