Scholarly Selections: Gender Politics in Online Dating
April 16 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
COMMUNICATION, GENDER, AND THE POLITICS OF MAKING THE FIRST MOVE WITH ONLINE DATING.
Join us for a Scholarly Selections presentation about digital dating and the quest for connection. In the world of online dating, Bumble has made a name for itself as the app that empowers women and promises to change the rules of the dating game by only allowing women to send the opening message after matching with a man, leaving men to wait for women to reach out and make the first move. In this talk UW Tacoma Associate Professor Riki Thompson presents her original research about online communication, gender, sexuality, and the politics of matching, messaging, and making the first move in digital dating spaces.
