Come Out and Celebrate Juneteenth in Tacoma

There’s a lot going on in Tacoma today and we thought it would be helpful to collect everything we’ve heard about so far into one spot. If you’re unfamiliar with the significance of Juneteenth, you can read more about it here.

Some of these events will focus on protest. Some will focus on celebration. All of them will commemorate a hugely important event in our nation’s history that deserves equal prominence and recognition with other national holidays.

The following descriptions were copied/pasted from the Facebook events but be sure to check the actual posts for updates and details (click the headings for FB links). Also, if you’re going out to get supplies or lunch or anything, keep in mind that a lot of businesses will be closed in solidarity.

If you know of any other protests, demonstrations, or events happening in celebration of Juneteenth—especially on the Eastside, Southend, or South Tacoma—please let us know in the comments below. Lastly, if you go to any of these events, please be respectful of social distancing and wear a mask when appropriate.

Stay safe, take care of each other, and make your voice heard. We’ll see you out there.

Juneteenth/Pride Celebration! (People’s Park 3:00-10:00)

Tacoma Mutual Aid Collective is hosting a Juneteenth/Pride celebration at historical People’s Park in Hilltop, Tacoma. This will be an event for our community to come together after weeks of protest for a good meal & good times. We are doing this block party style, so we encourage folks to bring chairs/tables/blankets so we can set up in a socially-distant type of way all across the park. We’ll also have an open mic set up on the stage area & we encourage any performers out there to hit us up about a potential jam session. You’re also encouraged to wear your Pride best! Come show out & flex on us all!

*We will be sharing information as we agree on it (including some really great info on food!) so save the date and keep an eye on this event!
