After the sun sets, and long after most of us are resting at home, photographer Danny Crelling is out on the streets. In part, because that’s the time he can eke out away from his day job and three young children, and in part because Tacoma by night is really fucking beautiful.

Take a look at a few of the shots of our City of Destiny this born-and-raised Tacoman has been sharing on Instagram.

After a day of work at U.S. Oil in the Port of Tacoma, Danny returns home to his wife Jennifer, their 9-year-old daughter Rylee, and their 2-year-old twin sons Dracen and Jaxon. Though they’re “busy around the clock,” Danny makes a point to get out and shoot, his favorite location being downtown Tacoma.
“There are so many historical landmarks and beautifully lit buildings around as well as the traffic flow at night,” he told Grit City Magazine. “Capturing brake and headlight trails is always a nice twist to photography downtown.”
“I absolutely love the Glass Museum for taking some colorfully pictures, too,” he added. “And I can’t forget Ruston way and Owen Beach when I want to add a twist and have some long exposure water photos!”

Though Danny has been in Tacoma all of his 33 years of life thus far, he’s far from being done exploring and capturing our city.
In his words: “I am a Tacoma lifer and plan on being here forever. This is my city and I plan on shooting so many more photos along my journey.”
You’re welcome to follow Danny and his growing portfolio of work on Instagram.
